Empowering communities to be agents of change through play

WASA Games is a Montreal-based nonprofit whose mission is to facilitate sustainable living solutions and to empower creativity through play. We believe we are all city builders, and that young people should be actively involved in city planning, community building, and decision making.

We have developed a cooperative analog city building game that empowers youth to be agents of change, to be creative and to implement sustainable ideas in their communities. We’ve facilitated the game nationally across Canada, reaching 5,000+ people since 2016.

From Education to Empowerment
What we initially thought would be an educative game on sustainability became also a tool for democratic decision making and youth’s empowerment; Our game not only raises awareness on social issues, it allows young people to think critically about their communities’ governance, power dynamics and organization, and most importantly it gives them a voice.

WASA Games was born from the desire to bring play into schools. The nonprofit was founded in 2016 by Julie and Alban, a designer and an engineer who share a passion for board games. The duo believes education and creativity are keys to facilitate the socio-ecological transition.
